Discovering Design

As an undergraduate student , the requirements, standards and information of graphic design was given to me. It was told to me that graphic design is where we design logos, symbols, web pages, magazines etc. The history of art and its fundamentals were taught to me but the history of graphic design and how it came about was not really discussed. It was something I always wanted to know and learn about. As a designer I kept doing my projects based on the needs of the client, tutor and so on. After my undergrad, when i decided to take up post-graduation in design I wanted to first explore the origin of design and its importance in this world.

Through days and days of researching with the help of online books and sites, I discovered that there was more to what is design and where it came from. There were a lot of people responsible for the origin of design. Design has various definitions. There are many arguments that there are many ways of describing design processes. Many arguments, clash of opinions related to design and design processes have bee recorded and talked about in many articles, websites etc.

I have given my opinion of design in my next post, but I don’t think there will be any specific definition or opinion of what is design anywhere! It’s how we consider it, how we use it and how we display it to be. It’s origin dates back to the 1960’s where various people have said to coin the term design, again not specific. I have understood the fact that along the upcoming years, I’m still going to ponder and wonder what design is and where it came from. My research shall go on….

Design is a part of everyday life and I personally love Graphic design because of the diverse opportunities it provides and its global popularity. Graphic design quips my interest and always makes me question the reasons behind why a particular design can make or break the entire aesthetic of any work of art.

My blog will be all about my journey as a designer, my projects and thoughts in the field of design.
